Frequently asked questions
Dermal fillers are a type of injectable treatment that uses a soft gel made from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body. They can be used to add volume and shape to various areas of the face, such as the lips, cheeks, and jawline. They can also be used to fill in wrinkles and lines, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines) and marionette lines (lines from the mouth to the chin). In addition, dermal fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of dark under eye circles and to perform a liquid rhinoplasty, which involves smoothing out bumps on the nose or lifting a drooping nasal tip. While dermal fillers provide long-lasting results, they are not permanent.
The duration of dermal filler treatment depends on several factors, such as the viscosity of the filler (thicker fillers are used for deeper areas like the cheeks and jawline), a person's water intake, physical activity level, and the rate at which their body metabolizes the filler. Generally, lip filler lasts from 6 to 12 months, while facial filler lasts from 12 to 18 months. It is recommended to schedule touch-up treatments around the 6 to 12 month mark.
Dermal filler is typically administered using a thin needle and may be described as feeling like light pressure or pinching. To minimize discomfort, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and the filler itself often contains a local anesthetic to numb the area during the injection. While some parts of the face may be more sensitive to treatment, the procedure is generally comfortable, and the results are often considered worthwhile.
Mild swelling and/or bruising are the most common side-effects-these are totally normal and will start to subside very quickly. You will be given a copy of our thorough after-care advice which will explain how to speed the healing process up, along with a little after pack which includes a pot of Arnica Gel to reduce any potential bruising. If you are a sufferer of cold sores, there is some evidence to show that injections in the lips may trigger a new cold sore.
